United Church Women is a group of women in our church who meet once a month on the second Tuesday of each month except July and August, for worship and fellowship. All ladies are invited and welcome to join with us. We take part in the ecumenical World Day of Prayer service held in one of Golden’s churches on the first Friday in March each year. For 40 years we have had a Pie, Plant Bake Sale and Tea in the spring that is always well attended. As many of our members became older we stopped having our fall bazaar and now have a silent bazaar instead.
UCW Mission Statement:
Our mission is to love God: to foster Christian faithfulness, spirituality, commitment, and devotion, and to promote love and respect by living generously and giving joyfully to all God’s people:; and to affirm and strengthen ourselves creatively.
History of UCW in Golden
Women have always been a very active part of our church and its history. When the first churches began in our area in 1887 the ladies met as a group called Women’s Aid. In other parts of Canada there was the Women’s Auxiliary or WA (the working group) and the Women’s Missionary Society WMS (that worshiped and studied together and supported home and world missions of the church). These two groups continued until 1962 when the United Church Women or UCW formed which amalgamated the two former groups. In Golden we had two groups, an afternoon group and an evening group. As our numbers decreased the two units joined and we now have one group.
